Season 8 Finale Spoilers

These spoilers have been gleaned from a wide variety of sources. Many of those sources are known for their reliability, and at least one, who has been right before, has seen a script. I consider this information to be as accurate as spoilers can be. I still have hope that this is misinformation deliberately spread by the powers that be in order to throw us spoilersluts off the scent, but for now, this seems to be reliable information.

In the final couple of episodes of the season, it seems that Mulder entrusts Scully to Krycek. Krycek keeps her safe, apparently with the assistance of Margaret Scully and Agent Monica Reyes. However, in the final episode of the season, according to one source, Krycek apparently orders Skinner to kill Mulder, and Skinner kills Krycek instead. According to another, very reliable source, the overall context is that Krycek dies a hero an in the process puts an end to both colonisation and the mythology storyline, once and for all. "Mulder" could be a rebel, or he could be a hybrid (shades of Cassandra Spender in Two Fathers) - in which case the two pieces of apparently conflicting information could co-exist.

There are question marks and plausibility issues concerning this storyline (aside from its pure agony for we Krycek fans). There are also other speculations, including the possibility that Krycek is the father of Scully's baby (Gillian Anderson has said that the baby's paternity was a complete shock to her, which seems to rule out Mulder and CSM). If the mythology is indeed coming to an end, then Krycek's death seems a near certainty. My speculation is that Marita, too, would probably die; or, at the very best, disappear. Neither character seems to have a place in the story in the absence of the mythology. This is disheartening news.

What we do know for certain is that Nicholas Lea is indeed in the season finale, as he was seen by several people during filming. We also know that he was seen on set very late in the filming season, apparently after the wrap party, which some speculate may be tied to a secret alternate ending; although in honesty this is probably wishful thinking. We believe to near-certainty that Laurie Holden is not in the episode, because her publicist, Lea Yardim, has said that she is not, as a consequence of her work on The Majestic. However, The Majestic is being filmed in Northern California, just a one-hour commute by plane from the X Files set. Frank Spotnitz has been saying since very early in the season that Marita would be in the final episodes, suggesting that her role was an important one. If, as has happened in previous years, the powers that be are spreading misinformation, Laurie could still be in the episode. However, this is a long shot. If the spoilers and my related speculations are correct, my guess is that Marita will be killed in absentia, just as Diana Fowley was in Amor Fati. (26 April 2001)
